JUNE SEASONAL LABYRINTH WALKS
Welcoming the Healing Energy of Summer We will officially usher in this season of sun and the fertility of the land with prayer, poetry and ritual that invites each of us to cross over into a new season — one that signals a rebirth of energy, vitality, and hope for ourselves, our communities and our world. As we join with our ancestors in honoring the seasons and cycles of life, we will listen for their wisdom and celebrate all that rekindles the fire within and around us. Presenter: Judy Homer Location: Millbrook Baptist Church, 1519 East Millbrook Road, North Raleigh Living Life to the Fullest — A Monthly Tutorial Life offers many lessons, but how many of them are actually tutorials from which we consciously learn something to help us live with greater awareness of the gifts life holds for us? The "textbook" for this tutorial will be I Will Not Die an Unlived Life by Dawna Markova. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect, study and engage the text, alone and with others, and discover ways to apply its suggestions for living life more fully with meaning. Facilitator: Sister Mary Margaret Weber A Showing of the DVD, "The Women" Mothers, daughters, wives and friends — these are the women of "The Women." The story was originally written as a play by Clare Booth Luce, then made into a movie in 1939 and remade in 2008. The issues of female empowerment, body image, self-esteem and "What is real beauty?" that occur throughout the script are as timely now as they were then. It will be enjoyable to watch this DVD with other women. It will be nourishing to discuss it afterward! Popcorn provided! Facilitator: Sister Mary Margaret Weber Nourish Yourself Through Writing
We know that writing can feed our bodies and nourish our spirits, but what if we had the opportunity to write about what we eat? Published writers and teachers, Alice Osborn and Jane Andrews, will lead the group in a powerpacked morning of focused writing exercises all about our favorite food and culinary experiences. In our time together, we'll do several writing exercises that will incorporate the sight, sound, taste, touch and smell of what we eat. No prior writing experience is necessary! Writing about food is an accessible way to learn more about yourself and feel more comfortable with your writing practice. Coffee, tea and continental breakfast will be provided. Date/Time: Saturday, June 27, 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. JULY In the Shelter of Her Wings:
In this three-part series, we will trace the spiritual and textual history of the Shekhinah, the Indwelling Divine Presence that has accompanied Israel throughout the ages. Modern sages point us to the persistence of the Divine Feminine in Jewish thought and practice since pre-Biblical times. Discover your own path to Her eternal dwelling, in the midst of the people and in the deepest recesses of your seeking heart. Facilitator: Rabbi Raachel Jurovics Hildegard of Bingen: The Green Mystic In this era of environmental awareness, "green" symbolizes an understanding of earth's beauty and fragility and one's commitment to live with an awareness of the interdependence of all life. Would you be surprised to learn that the 12thcentury mystic, Hildegard of Bingen, understood this interconnectedness and proclaimed it through her preaching, artistry and music? Come and sit at the feet of this extraordinary woman and learn about green! Presenter: Sister Mary Margaret Weber AUGUST To Live or Not to Live: What are the Questions? In this program we will look at LIVE as an acronym posing four key questions: What do I love? What are my i nner gifts and talents? What do I value? What are the environments that bring out the best in me? We'll draw inspiration from I Will Not Die an Unlived Life by Dawna Markova. Facilitator: Sister Mary Margaret Weber Reawaken your inner artist! Do you fear that your creativity has been buried under all the day-to-day responsibilities or has become completely lost? Be assured that you can rediscover the creative potential that came so easily in childhood. You need not be an artist! Preconceived ideas about what it takes to be creative can be a hindrance to expanding our creativity. Living life creatively does not necessarily mean we write, paint, draw, compose symphonies, invent contraptions, or the like. In fact, our creative passion refers either to a chosen artistic outlet or to our desire to live our life artfully, authentically, being ourselves without effort, and using our God-given talents in whatever way makes sense to us as individuals. Benefits of awakening your creative passion include renewed vitality and energy, increased self-esteem and confidence. Ultimately, you will find yourself living a richer, more deeply satisfying and successful life. Presenter: Judy Homer Presenting Your Words Without Fear Experienced speaker and presenter, Alice Osborn, will help you overcome and conquer your anxiety of reciting your words in public. This class is ideal for women who want to conduct more public speaking for groups or for their work and/or who would like to present their work at an open mic or public reading. All class members will be encouraged to participate in a local open mic reading after this class concludes. Dates/Time: Tuesdays, August 11 and 18, 7–8:30 p.m. SEPTEMBER A Walk Through the "Woulds" of Life What would you do with your life if you believed you could? This program offers the opportunity to explore this evocative question — and perhaps even to answer it! Presenter: Sister Mary Margaret Weber Women: Weaver of Relationships Relationships formed and nurtured by women are the fabric of society. Come and remember the relationships that are the fabric of your life. Come and celebrate the gift women are: being society's quilters! Dates/Times: Monday, September 21, 1:30–3 p.m. OR Thursday, September 24, 7–8:30 p.m. OR Tuesday, September
